BBB (Better Business Bureau)

Cricket

A cricket is a small piece installed in between the roofing surface and the chimney to divert water. A cricket is an essential piece for any home with a chimney 30 inches or larger.

Felt

A sheet of saturated material that can be used as a secondary layer of protection for your roof.

(Metal) Finial

A finial is one of the ornate finishing touches to your roof. A finial is a decorative metal point normally placed on the ridges of a roof.

Flashing

Flashings are materials used to waterproof a roof around any penetration or roof to wall area. These are on different areas covering the roof and should be inspected every two to three years for damage.

Inspection

A roof inspection for any residential property. Our inspection is for your protection. Elliott Roofing’s “Roof Inspection Package” includes a completed inspection form detailing the condition of all roof surfaces, your additional components and roof accessories in a checklist format. You will receive a letter with a summary of your roof inspection, five photos for visual review and an           interpretation of the Elliott representative’s findings. Insurance Claims

Elliott Roofing serves as a roof insurance claim specialist and will help write a claim to your insurance company after major damage to your roof. We help assess roof damage and help file roof insurance claims. Nail Stripper

A nail dispenser and holder worn around the neck. Roofers tend to use a nail stripper instead of a typical tool belt. The nail stripper holds the unused nails and lets them out the bottom one by one, giving the roofer an easier way to grab nails.

ORCA (Oklahoma Roofing Contractors Association)

The Oklahoma Roofing Contractors Association is a non-profit organization created to promote, train, and educate both our members and consumers on best practices for the roofing industry in Oklahoma.

Pitch

The angle, slope or slant of your roof. It was common to have a “low-pitched” roof in the 1960’s and a “high-pitched” roof is more common in a Victorian-era home.

Repair

Fixing an existing roof without replacing the entire structure. With Elliott Roofing, sometimes a repair to your existing roof is a fraction of the cost of a new one. Ridge

The peak where two sloped roof sections meet.

Ridge Vents

Installed on the peak of the roof, allowing exhaust ventilation all along the ridge-line. Ridge vents allow year-round ventilation to help the attic and provide distributed ventilation along the entire underside of the roof.

Squares

Roofing squares are one of the most common measurements in the roofing industry. 1 roofing square = 100 square feet.

Tabs

The bottom portion of a traditional shingle separated by the shingle cut-outs.

Valley

Area where two adjoining sloped roof planes intersect on a roof creating a “V” shaped depression.

Whirly Bird

A whirly bird is also known as a wind turbine. These pieces are installed on the very top of the roof next to ridge vents and use wind power to suck hot and humid air out of the attic.
